Videos
Elapsed Time on a Number Line In this video from Learn Zillion, elapsed time on a number line is demonstrated in the context of word problems. Additional elapsed time word problem videos are also available. It will sometimes prompt you for a Student Code" and here are the codes to these two videos below. If you wish to watch another video that you happen upon, please email Mrs. Baumgart @ [email protected] and she will add the code to the website. There are hundreds of videos for you to explore!
Code for Elapsed Time on a Number Line: LZ575
Code for Elapsed time word problems: LZ578
Identify a Fraction as a Point on a Number Line This video from Learn Zillion demonstrates how to divide a number line into equal parts in order to identify a fraction on the line.
App
Pattern Shapes App These virtual pattern blocks are open-ended educational tools that can be used to explore geometry and fractions, create designs, or fill in outlines. As students work with the shapes they explore geometric relationships, think about angles, investigate symmetry, and compose and decompose larger shapes. Many of these explorations lead naturally to thinking about fractions as parts of a whole. Currently available for use on iPads, they will soon be available in an online version as well.
Free Online Manipulatives and Activities
Fractions Naming Write the fraction represented by the highlighted part of a shape.
Fractions, Parts of a Whole Model fractions as parts of a whole circle or square. Specify the number of equal parts and then select some of them to model a fraction.
Geoboard App With this virtual geoboard, students stretch bands around pegs to form line segments and polygons and make discoveries about perimeter, area, angles, congruence, fractions, and more. iPad and online versions available.
Fraction Number Line Click and drag fractions from 0-2 and place on a number line. This activity also shows the equivalents in decimals and percents.
Books
The link below will direct you to books that can be purchased at Amazon. These were added with the intention of providing a list of appropriate books that they could check out from our local library. This link was chosen because you can preview the books and see what the cover looks like so it will be easier to find at the library.
Measurement Books, 3-5 Visit the Math Learning Center Virtual Bookshelf for titles about measurement. Grades 3-5.
Telling Time: How to Tell Time on Digital and Analog Clocks Humorous text explains the concept of time, from seconds to hours on both analog and digital clocks, from years to millennia on the calendar.
Time Books Visit the Math Learning Center Virtual Bookshelf for titles on time.
Millions to Measure Wizard explores the invention of length, weight, and volume, then introduces the world of metrics. Steven Kellogg's illustrations.
Fraction Books Visit the Math Learning Center Virtual Bookshelf for titles with fraction themes.

Games for Kids
Bang On Time Time is displayed in words. Player stops clock when hands are in matching position.
Hickory Dickory Clock Feed the mouse and avoid the cat by correctly reading the analog clock. Includes half past, quarter to, and quarter past.
Stop the Clock 3 Match five times shown on digital and analog clocks.
Number Sense Arrange 3 digits to create a 3-digit number larger than a given 3-digit number.
Liquid Measure Click and drag pipe connectors and water containers so that the amount of liquid specified in a jug will drain into a container with the correct capacity.
Bamzooki Fractions Basic Click on the number button to divide the floor arena into the number of segments that match the denominator. Then click on floor segments to color in divisions to represent the numerator.
Battleship Numberline: Fractions Click on a 0-1 number line to identify where a given fraction is located.
Mathman Fractions View a dot on a number line, determine the fraction, then eat the ghost with that fraction to earn points.
Measure It! View a segment next to a ruler and correctly identify its length. Levels include: easy inches (to the nearest half inch), medium inches (to the nearest fourth of an inch), hard inches (to the nearest eighth), and super brain inches (to the nearest sixteenth.)
Melvin's Make a Match Click on bottles to match equivalent fractions in this Cyberchase game.
Ordering Fractions Game Click and drag fractions to put in vertical order. The first level uses unit fractions; subsequent levels contain fractions with unlike denominators.
Pattern Block Fractions Click on a given fraction of a pattern block design. Game uses thirds and halves.
Pizza Bears Bears share pizzas. Select from 1-5 bears and 1-6 pizzas. Teaching tool for whole group instruction. Answers are not given; it's meant to be used as a manipulative for exploration. Use a knife to cut pizzas into desired number of pieces.
Shading Blocks Color blocks to represent a given fraction. Five levels from which to select. At the lowest level players shade in 1/2 of 4,6,8, or 10; at the highest level, shade in 1/3 or 2/3 of 6, 9, or 12. TESiboard activity.
Slide to the Top Arrange numbers from least to greatest on a number line. Work quickly and accurately to better your score. Choose from fractions, fractions & decimals, and fractions/decimals/percents.
The Ruler Game Click on a ruler to identify the location of a given number. Choose from the following levels: wholes, halves, quarters, eighths, sixteenths.
